Srinagar, Jul 04 (KNO): The Government Bone and Joint Hospital in Barzulla is receiving an average of 1,000 patients daily in its Out Patient Department (OPD), with numerous surgeries performed every day. Officials at the B&J Hospital told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the OPD attracts around 1,000 patients daily from various parts of Jammu & Kashmir and even Ladakh. On Mondays and Tuesdays, the number of OPD patients can reach 1,300-1,500, while on other days, it ranges between 800 and 900, according to a doctor who wished to remain anonymous, they said. An official said that dozens of patients are referred to the hospital from district and sub-district hospitals daily. "Though the hospital is the valley's largest tertiary-care bone and joint hospital, it doesn't mean every case should be referred here, as it puts pressure on limited resources,” he said. In the In-Patient Department (IPD), around 50 patients are admitted daily, and on average, about 14 major and 38 minor surgeries are performed. Additionally, approximately 509 radiology investigations are conducted, along with 216 blood bank tests and 445 laboratory services. The hospital also provides 75 physiotherapy sessions, 91 plaster applications, and 60 dressings daily. Medical Superintendent of Bone and Joint Hospital, Dr Shabir Siddiqui told KNO that the hospital, a tertiary care postgraduate trauma and orthopaedic care facility associated with Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, receives patients from all districts of Srinagar, Leh, Kargil and a few districts of Jammu. "All facilities are provided to patients round the clock, and with the completion of the new building, the services will be further enhanced to offer better facilities to the patients," Dr Shabir said—(KNO)
